The weather in Bucaramanga is very pleasant. It is not too hot and not too cold. The average temperature stays around 22 degrees Celsius. This happens because of the land around the city. Cool winds blow down from the high peaks in the east. At the same time, warm air rises from the canyon to the west. This keeps the daily temperature changes small. The city has a tropical rainforest climate, but it is a bit dry. In December, the driest month, rainfall is quite low.

Bucaramanga has a long and interesting history. It began as an indigenous town long ago. People originally came to the area to find gold in the ground. The city was officially founded on December 22, 1622. For a long time, a town called Girón was more important. Bucaramanga did not become the main center until the early 1800s. In 1886, it became the capital of the department. The city grew slowly during the early 1900s because of a civil war.
