In 1928, a man named Walter Diemer made a new recipe. He worked for a company in Philadelphia. His new gum was less sticky than old gum. It could also stretch much easier. The company named it Dubble Bubble because it was so stretchy. The gum became famous for its pink color. This happened by chance! Diemer's first recipe looked gray. He only had red dye to use. He added the dye to make it pink.

Most gum today uses man-made parts called synthetic bases. These help the gum stay soft. They also help the flavor last a long time. Many gums used to stick to faces when bubbles popped. New gum does not do that.

Flavors can be many things. Some use fruit smells called esters. Others use real things like banana or cinnamon. Children often like strawberry or blue raspberry. They do not like complex flavors. They say simple flavors are better to chew. People even set world records for the biggest bubbles ever blown!
