The story follows a man named Michel. He is a criminal in Paris. He meets a student named Patricia. Michel is wild and talks a lot. Patricia is more quiet and thinks deeply.

The movie was very bold. It used jump cuts, which are quick breaks in a scene. This was a new way to edit films. The director, Jean-Luc Godard, wanted a natural look. He shot in real streets instead of on sets. He even used a hand-held camera. Sometimes, the crew used a wheelchair to move the camera. This made the film feel very real and fast.

Many people loved the film. Over two million people saw it in France. It helped make Jean-Paul Belmondo a big star. Critics still call it one of the best movies ever made. It changed how people think about movies today.
