This hat is special because it is both useful and strong. It can be worn for fancy events or just a normal day. Many people throughout history have found it to be the perfect thing to wear on their heads.

This hat was made to solve a specific problem for workers. In 1849, gamekeepers needed a hat that would stay on while they rode horses. They often rode under low tree branches that would hit their hats. Before this, they wore tall top hats that broke or fell off easily.

The new bowler hat was low and fit close to the head. It was designed to be very tough so it would not break.

Two men named Thomas and William Bowler created this design in London. They were working for a famous company called Lock & Co. Hatters.

People all over the world began wearing the bowler hat in different ways. In the American West, cowboys and railroad workers used them because they stayed on in the wind.
