He is best known for his work at The Washington Post. Investigative journalists do the hard job of looking for hidden truths. They try to find out what is happening behind closed doors in the government. Woodward has spent his life studying how leaders and politics work. His work has helped many people understand how their country is run. He has become one of the most well-known reporters in the world.

Woodward became a star because of the Watergate scandal in 1972.

He worked with a partner named Carl Bernstein to report on a break-in. This break-in happened at the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee. The reporters found that people in the Nixon re-election committee used dirty tricks. This news led to many investigations and made President Richard Nixon resign. Their story was so big that it was made into a famous movie. A secret helper known as "Deep Throat" helped them find the truth.

Before he was a famous reporter, Woodward had a different career. He grew up in Illinois and went to Yale University.

After college, he served in the United States Navy for five years. He worked as a communications officer on a ship called the USS Wright. This ship was a special command post for the military. Woodward was one of two officers who handled nuclear launch codes. He later studied at George Washington University before starting his journalism career.

Woodward has had a very busy and long career.

He joined The Washington Post as a reporter in 1971. Since 1974, he has written 21 books about American politics. Fourteen of those books were best-sellers, which means many people bought them. He even wrote four books about the presidency of George W. Bush. He spent a lot of time interviewing the President to learn about the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. His many books help explain the history of the United States.

His work shows how one person can change what the public knows.

Just like a detective looks for clues, Woodward looks for facts. He uses interviews and research to build a complete picture of a story. Sometimes his work is difficult, like when he faced a disagreement with the Obama administration. Other times, he has had to admit when he made a mistake in his reporting. Even with these challenges, he remains a very important figure in news history. His life shows how much power a good story can have.
