technology Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Blogger is a way for people to write and share stories online.

It is a content management system, which is a tool used to build and organize websites. People use it to create blogs. A blog is a site where you can write entries that have a time stamp. This stamp shows exactly when the post was made. You can have up to 100 different blogs or websites with just one account.

How does the service work for a user? Most people use a web address that ends in blogspot.com. However, you can also use a custom domain. This is a special name like www.example.com that you own yourself. To make this work, you use DNS facilities to point your name to Google's servers. Google hosts the blogs, which means they provide the computers that keep the sites running. This helps the service stay reliable for everyone.

Blogger has a long history that started a long time ago. A company called Pyra Labs launched the service on August 23, 1999. It became very popular because it was one of the first tools made just for blogging. In February 2003, Google bought Pyra Labs. After the takeover, features that used to cost money became free. In 2004, Google also added Picasa to Blogger. This allowed users to upload images directly to their posts.

There have been many big changes to how Blogger looks and works. In 2006, a new version called "Invader" was released. This version moved all blogs to Google servers. It also added many new languages like French, Italian, German, and Spanish. In 2011, a new design called "Dynamic View" arrived. This design uses special code to load 40 percent faster than old styles. It lets you see your blog in seven different ways, such as a magazine or a mosaic.

Blogger is a huge tool used by people all over the world. By late 2016, it was available in 60 different languages. This includes languages like Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, and Zulu. Some countries, like China and Russia, have blocked Blogger for different reasons. If you need help, you can visit the Blogger Product Forum. There, you can talk to other users and even "Product Experts." These experts are special members who help manage the discussions.
