As more British people came, they took more land. They used the land for sheep and cattle. This made it hard for Aboriginal people to hunt for food. Conflict grew between the two groups.

Some settlers also took Aboriginal women and children. This caused much anger and fighting.

From 1824 to 1832, a violent conflict took place. This is often called the Black War. Both sides fought to protect their way of life. Many people died in the fighting.

In 1830, the British tried a plan called the Black Line. This was a military move to push Aboriginal people away. It did not work.

Later, a man named George Augustus Robinson helped make peace. Most survivors were moved to Flinders Island. Many died there from sickness. Today, some people call this time a genocide. This means they believe the group was meant to be destroyed.
