Arabanoo was a man from the Eora people. He lived in Australia. In 1788, British ships arrived at Sydney Cove. They built a settlement on Eora land. The British leader was Governor Arthur Phillip. He wanted to talk to the Eora people. To do this, he had Arabanoo taken away. This happened on New Year's Eve in 1788.

Arabanoo lived with the British settlers. He wore their clothes and drank tea. At first, he was kept in chains. Later, the chains were removed. He chose to stay at the settlement. But things became very sad for his people. A bad sickness called smallpox spread. It was very hard on the Eora people. Arabanoo tried to help the sick. He helped a boy and a girl. He was very kind to them. Soon, Arabanoo got the sickness too. He died on May 18, 1789. He was buried in a garden. People at the settlement thought he was a very kind man.
