They came from a place called Antwerp. A man named Jacob moved to Basel in 1620. He was a trader who sold spices. His family grew and lived in Basel for a long time.

Eight members of this family were math experts. They helped us understand math and physics. One famous man was Jacob Bernoulli. He wrote about probability, which is the study of chance. We still use his name for Bernoulli numbers today.

Another man was Johann Bernoulli. He helped use calculus, a way to study change. His son, Johann Daniel, found Bernoulli's principle. This helps us understand how things move. His other son was Johann II. He was a physicist and a mathematician.

Other family members studied the stars. They were astronomers. Some even studied maps as geographers. The family name is still found in Switzerland today. Many math ideas still use their names.
