Benjamin Bloom was a person who studied how we learn. He was an American educational psychologist. This means he studied the way people gain knowledge. He wanted to understand how teachers can help students do better. His work changed how schools work all over the world. Many teachers still use his ideas today.

One of his biggest ideas was called Bloom's taxonomy. This is a system used to group different kinds of learning. It helps teachers describe and measure what a student has learned. Before this, describing mental processes was a hard job. His system gave a clear structure to these ideas. It is still a foundation for many teachers today.

Bloom also created a way to teach called Mastery Learning. He noticed that teaching was often the same for every student. He thought teachers should change how they teach for each child. In this way, lessons are split into small units. These units usually last one to two weeks. At the end, students take an assessment to see what they know.

Mastery Learning helps every student move at their own pace. If a child struggles, they get special assignments to help them understand. They then take another test on those specific skills. If a child learns the unit quickly, they get enrichment activities. These can be academic games or special projects. Bloom was born in 1913 in Lansford, Pennsylvania. He earned a doctorate from the University of Chicago in 1942.

Bloom also studied why some people become very talented. He interviewed 70 people who were the best in their fields. These included Olympic swimmers and concert pianists. He found that these people were willing to work hard. They were also competitive and liked learning new techniques. He saw that parents and teachers help by giving extra support. This support helps a person's talent grow.
