Some Belgae even moved to southern Britain.

A leader named Julius Caesar wrote about them. He said they were very brave. He thought they were far from Roman cities. This meant they did not have many Roman goods. They lived close to the German people. This led to many wars.

Archaeologists found many things in their graves. People often burned bodies after they died. They left items like brooches and pottery in the graves. They did not usually leave weapons. Some people think they spoke a Celtic language. Others think they had a different way of speaking. The name Belgae is where the name Belgium comes from today.
