King Otto I led the German army to help. He wanted to stop the raids. He led eight groups of soldiers. His men wore heavy armor. The Magyars wore much lighter armor. They liked to fight from far away with bows. But German soldiers were strong in close combat.

On August 10, the two armies met. The German heavy cavalry won the fight. The Magyars retreated. Then, heavy rain fell from the sky. The rain made it hard for the Magyars to use their bows. It also caused floods. This made it hard for them to escape. The German army caught them. This victory helped keep Germany safe. It also ended the raids into Western Europe.
