An aura is a strange feeling in the senses.

It can happen to people with migraines or epilepsy.

An aura is caused by activity in specific parts of the brain.

If the visual area is busy, a person sees things.

If the hearing area is busy, they hear sounds.

In epilepsy, an aura is a small seizure.

It happens when brain cells send out odd signals.

This can be a warning sign.

It gives people time to stay safe before a larger seizure.

Migraine auras are often visual.

This is because the activity starts in the visual cortex.

The visual cortex is the part of the brain that sees.

An aura may be followed by a headache.

Visual auras can look many ways.
