The Atomic Age began in 1945. This happened after the first nuclear weapon test. Scientists found a new way to use atoms. Atoms are tiny bits that make up everything.

In the 1950s, many people felt very hopeful. They thought atomic power would change the world. They hoped it could make electricity very cheap. Some even thought about nuclear cars or planes.

In Las Vegas, people even went to watch tests. They called the city "Atomic City." Some stayed in hotels to see the clouds. This was fun for them, but it was not safe. The fallout could make people very sick later.

Other ideas used atoms for peace. A plan called Project Plowshare wanted to use small blasts to build canals. But people also feared big bombs and war. Accidents like Chernobyl also caused great worry.

Today, we know this power is hard to manage. It can help with medicine, but it can also be dangerous. We must use it with great care.
