Ash'arism is a major school of thought in Sunni Islam. It is a way of understanding religious beliefs and ideas. Many people consider it the most important school of theology in Islamic history. It provides a guide for what many people believe is correct. This school is one of three main groups in Sunni Islam. The other two groups are called Maturidism and Atharism.

This school works by using a middle way of thinking. It combines two different tools: holy books and human reason. Followers use the sacred writings of Islam to find truth. They also use logical thinking to explain how things work. This helps them talk about the nature of God and the world. They believe that God created every single moment in time. They also believe God created every tiny particle of matter.

A man named Abu al-Hasan al-Ash'ari started this school. He lived during the 9th and 10th centuries. He was born in Basra, which is in Iraq. He was a student of a teacher named al-Jubba'i. Al-Ash'ari wanted to find a balance between different ideas. He did not want to rely only on one way of thinking. He created a system that used both faith and logic. This helped settle many big questions for his followers.

There are many famous thinkers from this school. Some were great scientists and travelers. Ibn al-Haytham and Ibn Battuta were both part of this tradition. Other famous names include al-Ghazali and al-Razi. These people studied many things like physics and logic. They also believed in many important things. They believe in angels and all the prophets from Adam to Muhammad. They also believe in the reality of Paradise and Hell.

Ash'arism connects to how people understand the world today. It teaches that God is all-powerful and knows everything. People in this school believe God is different from anything else. They also believe that humans have a way to choose their actions. This idea is called "acquisition" or "iktisab." It means people take responsibility for what they do. Even though God creates all actions, humans still have the freedom to intend their choices.
