He was known for his beautiful way of playing classical music. Many people thought he was the best at playing songs by the composer Chopin. He spent eighty years performing for audiences all over the world. To him, the piano was not just an instrument. He said music was like a part of his own body, like an arm or a leg.

He lived his life through the sounds he made on the keys.

Playing the piano required incredible skill and a very special mind. Rubinstein had a photographic memory for music. This meant he could see the notes in his head like a picture. He could even visualize a coffee stain on a page while remembering a song. He had such strong hearing that he could play entire symphonies in his mind.

He once practiced a piece on his lap while riding a train. He did not even have a piano in front of him. This amazing ability helped him learn many difficult songs very quickly.

His journey began in a city called Łódź in Poland.

He was born on January 28, 1887, into a Jewish family. His brother actually helped choose his name. His brother thought he should be named Artur after a neighbor who played the violin well. By the age of four, he was already a child prodigy. This means he was exceptionally talented for his age. He gave his first public performance when he was only seven years old.

Rubinstein traveled to many places to grow as a musician. He moved to Berlin at age ten to study more. Later, he went to Paris in 1904 to start his professional career. He met many famous composers and musicians during his travels. He also toured the United States, Italy, Russia, and South America. In 1946, he became a citizen of the United States. He spent many years living in Los Angeles, California.

He even played the piano for movies during this time.

His life included both great joy and very difficult moments. He faced hard times when he was a young man in Berlin. He also suffered great sadness when his family in Poland was killed during the Holocaust. These events shaped how he saw the world. Despite these hardships, he continued to share his gift with others. He finally retired from the stage in 1976 at age 89. He gave his last concert in London, the same city where he first played many years before.
