This place has a very long history. People have lived there since at least the 7th century BC. It was once home to the Volsci and Samnite people. The town is a special part of the Frosinone province.

Many old things still exist in Arpino today. You can see large defensive walls made of stone. These walls are built in a special polygonal style. They can be up to 11 feet high. They are also up to seven feet wide.

One part of the wall even has a pointed arch. You can also find ancient Roman basalt pavement on the ground. This dark gray stone is very old and strong.

Famous leaders came from this town long ago. Two men named Gaius Marius and Marcus Tullius Cicero were born here. They both became consuls for the Roman Republic. This means they were very important leaders.

Cicero often wrote about the peace of his home. He loved the quiet feeling of Arpino. Some people even think the leader Agrippa was born here too.

Arpino has seen many changes over the years. The Romans took control of the town in 305 BC. Later, different groups like the Normans ruled the area. The town faced hard times and was destroyed twice. This happened in 1229 and again in 1242. A famous singer named Gioacchino Conti was born there much later in 1714. He was known as Il Gizziello.

Today, you can visit many historical sites near the town. You can see the church of S. Domenico in the Liri valley. This church marks the spot where Cicero lived.
