It is a boundary for the Arctic lands and waters. This line passes through the Arctic Ocean and Greenland. It also goes through parts of North America and Asia.

Eight countries have land within this circle. These are Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and the United States.

The sun acts in a unique way here. In the summer, the sun does not set for a whole day. We call this the midnight sun. In the winter, the sun does not rise at all. This is called the polar night. The closer you get to the North Pole, the longer this lasts.

It is often very cold in the Arctic. However, some coastal areas in Norway stay mild. This happens because of a warm ocean stream. In the deep interior, summers can be warm. But winters are extremely cold.

You can even see the bright northern lights in the sky. One city, Salekhard in Russia, sits right on the circle line.
