This line splits our world into two parts. We call these the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

Life near the equator is very warm. The sun shines almost straight down every day. This keeps the temperature steady all year long.

Because of this, the seasons feel different. You might not use words like summer or winter. Instead, the weather may change based on rain.

Day and night are nearly equal in length. On the equinoxes, day and night are both 12 hours long.

The equator is also a very long path. It crosses much more ocean than land. Most of it sits in the sea. It passes through eleven different countries.
