The Earth has a middle line called the equator.

There is also an imaginary line in space. We call this the celestial equator. It sits on the same plane as our equator.

This line helps us map the sky.

If you stand on the Earth's equator, you see a half circle. This circle goes through the zenith. The zenith is the point directly above you. If you move north or south, the line tilts. It looks like it moves toward the horizon. At the North or South Poles, the line matches the horizon.

Stars near this line are easy to see. They appear above the horizon from most places. Some stars are very close to this line. These include stars in Orion and Pisces. It also passes through Leo and Virgo.

Earth's tilt changes how this line sits in space. It is tilted about 23.44 degrees from the ecliptic. The ecliptic is the plane of Earth's orbit. This tilt changes over many years. It has moved between 22.0 and 24.5 degrees. This happens because of other planets and long cycles.
