It covers a huge area of 47,720 square kilometers. This makes it the fourth largest region in the whole country. Aragon is divided into three main provinces. These are Huesca in the north, Teruel in the south, and Zaragoza in the middle. The city of Zaragoza is the capital of the region.

The land in Aragon changes a lot depending on where you stand. In the north, the Pyrenees mountains rise very high into the sky. These mountains have the highest peaks, like Aneto, which reaches 3,404 meters. Some of these high spots even have permanent ice called glaciers.

In the center, there is a wide, flat area called the Ebro Valley. This valley sits between the Pyrenees mountains and the Sistema Ibérico mountains to the south. The highest peak in the southern mountains is Moncayo. It reaches a height of 2,314 meters.

Water is very important for the land in Aragon. The Ebro River is the largest river in Spain by volume. It flows from west to east across the entire region. Many other rivers start in the mountains and flow into the Ebro. These include the Aragón, Gállego, and Cinca rivers. In the mountains, you can find lovely small lakes called ibones.

There is also a huge water area called the Mequinenza Reservoir. People sometimes call it the "Sea of Aragon" because it is so big.

The weather in Aragon can be quite surprising. It has many different types of climates in one region. The high mountains have a cold Alpine climate with lots of snow. The central lowlands are much drier and can feel like a desert. This dry area is known as the Monegros Desert. A famous wind called the cierzo blows through the Ebro Valley. It is a cold and dry wind that can be very strong.

In the summer, temperatures in the central areas can even go above 40 °C.

Aragon has a very long and interesting history. Long ago, people from the Celtic and Roman worlds lived here. Later, the region was part of a kingdom called Al-Andalus for four hundred years. It was also part of the Frankish Marca Hispanica. Eventually, it became the Kingdom of Aragon and then the Crown of Aragon. Today, it is an autonomous community with its own special identity.
