Castilla–La Mancha is a large and important region in Spain.

It sits in the middle of the Iberian Peninsula. Much of the land is a vast, flat plain called a meseta.

This region is the third largest in all of Spain. It covers about 15.7 percent of the country's total land. It is made of five provinces: Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, Guadalajara, and Toledo. The city of Toledo serves as the main capital.

The landscape changes depending on where you stand. Most of the area is a wide, uniform plain. However, many mountains act as natural borders for the region. In the north, the Sistema Central mountains rise up high. The Sistema Ibérico mountains sit in the northeast.

In the south, you will find the Sierra Morena range. These mountains create a very different view than the flat plains. Some areas even have unique rock shapes like the Ciudad Encantada.

Water is a very important part of this land. Several large rivers flow through the different provinces. The Tagus and Guadiana rivers flow toward the Atlantic Ocean. The Júcar and Segura rivers flow toward the Mediterranean Sea.

The Tagus river provides water for 587,000 people. It flows through the province of Toledo. The Guadiana river covers a large part of Ciudad Real. These rivers help support the people and the land.

The weather here can be quite extreme. People often call this part of Spain "España Seca," which means "Dry Spain."

This is because there is not much rain. Summers are very hot and can stay dry for a long time. In the summer, temperatures often go above 30 degrees Celsius. Winters can be very cold with frost or snow. The temperature can change a lot between day and night.

This region has a very long and deep history. Humans have lived here since the very early Stone Age.
