It sat in a place we now call Anzio and Nettuno. Long ago, the Volsci people made it their home. They built strong walls and a deep ditch to stay safe.

Later, the Romans took control of the town. Antium became a very important place for them. It was known as a breadbasket for Rome. This means it grew much of the food Rome needed. The Romans built grand villas along the coast. Some famous leaders, like the emperor Nero, were even born there. Nero built a massive home called the Domus Neroniana. He also made a new harbor for boats.

Many beautiful statues were found in the ruins of these homes. Great works of art like the Apollo Belvedere came from this area. Over time, many groups attacked the town. These groups included the Vandals and the Goths. Eventually, people moved away to live in Nettuno. Today, the old town is a place of history.
