As a baby, Romulus and his twin, Remus, were left by a river. A she-wolf found them and fed them. Later, they grew up to be shepherds.

The brothers wanted to build a new city. They fought about which hill to use. In the end, Romulus killed Remus. Romulus then built the city of Rome.

He made many rules to help the people. He divided them into three groups called tribes. He also started the Roman Senate. This was a group of wise leaders called patres.

Rome needed more people to grow. Romulus took women from a nearby group called the Sabines. This led to a war. To stop the fighting, the Sabine women stepped between the two armies. They asked for peace. The Romans and Sabines joined together. Romulus ruled for thirty-seven years. Some say he was taken to heaven by the gods.
