He was a mathematical psychologist. This means he used math to study how people think and act. He also studied biology and how social groups work.

Rapoport used math to look at fights and peace. He studied game theory. This is a way to use math to see how people make choices. He wanted to know how people can work together. He made a computer program called Tit-for-Tat. It had only four lines of code. The program was simple. It started by being kind. Then, it just did what the other person did. This showed that being kind can help people cooperate.

He also studied social networks. He looked at how information moves through a group. He wanted to see how fast things spread. This helped him understand how germs spread, too.

Rapoport was a teacher for a long time. He taught at the University of Michigan and the University of Toronto. He wanted to make peace studies a real subject in school. He lived in Toronto until he died in 2007.
