Allan Sandage was a famous American astronomer. He spent his life studying the stars and the universe. He worked at the Carnegie Observatories in California.

Sandage helped find the age of the universe. He also studied the Hubble constant. This is a number that shows how fast the universe grows. He worked to make this number more accurate. He even found jets of gas in a galaxy called the Cigar Galaxy. These jets came from big explosions in the galaxy's center.

He was a very busy researcher. He wrote more than 500 papers about space. He also helped explain how our Milky Way galaxy formed. He thought a cloud of gas collapsed to make it. Sandage was so important that he was named one of the top scientists. He won many big awards for his work. He even had an asteroid named after him. He died in 2010 at the age of 84.
