People used it as a pesticide. This is a chemical used to kill pests. It was used on seeds and in soil. It worked well to stop bugs like termites.

Aldrin is not found in nature. Scientists make it in a lab. They use a way called a Diels-Alder reaction. This reaction joins two parts to make the powder.

This process also makes a similar part called isodrin.

Aldrin can be harmful to the world. It does not break down quickly. It can move through the air on dust. It can also get into water. When animals eat plants with aldrin, it stays in their fat. This is called bioaccumulation. This means the chemical builds up in the body.

Aldrin can also hurt the brain. It causes neurotoxicity, which is harm to the nervous system. This can lead to seizures or muscle jerking. Because it is so risky, most countries banned it. The Stockholm Convention is a group that helps ban these harmful chemicals. This helps keep our air, water, and animals safe.
