People use it all over the world. It is used in places like Africa and South America. It is also common in the United States.

To make adobe, people mix earth with water. They add organic material like straw or dung. Organic material is something from a living thing. Straw helps the brick dry evenly. This stops the brick from cracking.

Builders press the mud into a frame to make bricks. These bricks dry in the sun. Then, workers stack them to make walls. They use more mud to bond the bricks together.

Adobe walls are very thick. This gives them high thermal mass. Thermal mass means they can hold onto heat. During a hot day, the walls soak up heat. This keeps the inside of the house cool. When the sun sets, the walls let that heat out. This keeps the house warm at night.

However, these walls can break in earthquakes. They must be built carefully to stay safe.
