Living things change to fit their homes. This is called adaptation. It is a set of steps that helps a group of animals or plants live better.

These changes happen through natural selection. This is a way where traits that help survival are passed down.

Adaptations can be many things. Some are parts of the body. We call these structural adaptations. A bird might have a special beak shape.

Other changes are about how a living thing acts. These are called behavioural adaptations. An animal might learn to search for food in a new way.

Some changes are inside the body. These are physiological adaptations. They help with things like making venom or staying warm.

Sometimes, two species change together. This is called co-evolution. For example, a flower and an insect might grow to fit each other perfectly.

Animals can also use mimicry. This is when one species evolves to look like another.

This can help them stay safe. Some features even change jobs. Dinosaur feathers once kept them warm. Later, those feathers helped birds fly.
