Academic dishonesty

society Maturity 5-7 Next article →

Some students do not follow the rules at school. This is called academic dishonesty. It means acting in ways that go against school norms.

Cheating

This has happened for a very long time. Thousands of years ago, people cheated on tests in China. Even then, the rules were very strict. In the late 1800s, researchers found cheating was a big problem at colleges in the United States. Some groups even kept old papers to reuse them.

There are many ways people cheat. Some use cheat sheets. Others might use phones or calculators to find answers. Some students even pay others to do their work. This is called contract cheating. In the 1900s, some people even paid writers to do their tasks.

Another way is plagiarism. This is when someone uses another person's words or ideas. They act like the work is their own. In the past, artists often copied old masters. But in schools, this is seen as wrong.
