Honour is a way of acting. It can mean being brave or being honest. It is also about how much people respect you.

Some people think honour comes from a good soul. Others think it comes from power or rank.

In the past, honour was like an unwritten rule. It told people how to act in a group. In some places, honour was tied to land. If a person said, "on my honour," they meant it. They would even offer their land as a promise.

Honour can also belong to a family. If one person acts badly, it can hurt the family name. This can lead to sad and unfair things. In some cultures, people use honour to control others. This is often wrong and breaks human rights.

Some groups still use a code of honour. The military and Scouts use it to teach duty. In history, honour even caused wars. The War of 1812 happened because Americans wanted to protect their national honour.
