This Swedish group was formed in Stockholm in 1972. It included four talented singers named Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. They became known for their huge commercial success all over the world. People love their music because it is catchy and very well made. The group even became the best-selling band from continental Europe. They were also the first group from a non-English speaking country to find massive success in English-speaking lands like the United Kingdom and the United States.

The group's rise to fame happened through many musical steps.

First, the members worked as solo artists or in different bands. For example, Benny Andersson played keyboards in a group called the Hep Stars. Agnetha Fältskog was a successful singer and songwriter before joining the group. They began collaborating more often in 1971 by singing on each other's records. Their big break came in 1974 when they won the Eurovision Song Contest. They performed their famous song "Waterloo" to win the competition. This win helped them become superstars across the globe.

The history of the group is full of interesting personal stories.

During their peak, the four members made up two married couples. Agnetha was married to Björn, and Anni-Frid was married to Benny. As the group became more famous, their personal lives changed. Both marriages eventually ended, which changed the mood of their music. Their later songs often had darker and more thoughtful lyrics. After the group disbanded in December 1982, the members went their separate ways. Some wrote music for stage shows, while others had solo careers.

ABBA has achieved many amazing numbers in the music industry.

They have also won the BRIT Billion Award for having over one billion streams. Their hit collection, "Abba Gold," has been certified platinum over 128 times in many different countries.

Their songs were used to create the stage musical Mamma Mia!. This musical toured the world and had a very long run on Broadway. A movie version of the musical was also a huge success in 2008. Most recently, the group used technology to create a new kind of show. They started a concert residency in London called ABBA Voyage. This show uses digital avatars, which are computer versions of the singers, to perform. These concerts have been seen by over 3 million people.
