The album has four parts. It begins with a loud gong. In the first part, Coltrane sings the words "a love supreme." He repeats a four-note tune many times. The last part is called "Psalm." In this part, Coltrane uses his sax to tell a story. He does not speak the words, but he plays them through his music. Many people feel the music is very spiritual. They think it shows great joy and thanks to God. This album has helped many other artists. For example, the guitar player Carlos Santana was inspired by it.
