Zhuang Zhou was a famous Chinese thinker. He lived during the 4th century BCE. This was a time of many new ideas. Many people know him as Zhuangzi. He is linked to Taoism, a way of life and thought. He is credited with writing a book called the Zhuangzi.

The book has 33 chapters. These are split into three groups. The first group is the "Inner Chapters." Some say Zhuangzi wrote these. The next group is the "Outer Chapters." The last group is the "Mixed Chapters." People disagree on who wrote each part. Some think his students wrote them. Others think the names just describe the titles.

Zhuangzi used stories called parables to teach. He loved wordplay and humor. One famous story is about a butterfly. In this story, he dreams he is a butterfly. This makes us wonder about what is real. He also valued his freedom. He once said no to a job from a king. He wanted to stay free to think and live his own way.
