It is one of the largest and oldest sites of its kind in the country. Because it tells us so much about the past, UNESCO named it a World Heritage Site in 2006. The site helps us understand how people lived thousands of years ago.

Archaeologists study the site to learn about ancient life. They look at many things like palaces, temples, and workshops. They have found over 80 foundations made of rammed earth.

These foundations show where important buildings once stood. They also found many items made of bronze and jade. These objects show us the art and the special ways people honored the dead. Some items, like the large Houmuwu ding, were made using a special mold process.

For a long time, the history of the Shang dynasty was mostly a legend. This changed in 1899 when Wang Yirong noticed something strange. He was looking at bones being sold as medicine. He saw carvings on the bones that looked like ancient writing.

These are called oracle bones. They contain the earliest known Chinese writing. In 1917, a scholar named Wang Guowei used these bones to list the names of Shang kings. This proved that the Shang dynasty was a real part of history.

Many different people have helped uncover the secrets of Yinxu. In 1928, an archaeologist named Li Ji led the first official digs. He found royal tombs and over 100,000 oracle bones. In 1976, a researcher named Zheng Zhenxiang discovered the Tomb of Fu Hao.

Lady Fu Hao was a wife of King Wu Ding and a military leader. Her tomb was very special because it had not been disturbed by looters. It contained many treasures and even skeletons of dogs.

Today, Yinxu is a place where people go to learn and explore. A new museum building opened in 2024 to show off thousands of relics. It uses cool technology like 3D displays to show the ancient oracle bones. The city of Anyang is also creating new ways for people to visit. They are building bookstores and even night tours near the Huan River. This helps keep the story of the Shang dynasty alive for everyone.
