language culture Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Yakut is a special way to speak. It is also called Sakha. About 450,000 people use it. Most speakers live in the Sakha Republic in Siberia. People also speak it in places like Turkey and Kazakhstan.

This language is part of the Turkic family. It is very unique. It left its language group a long time ago. Because of this, it sounds different from other Turkic languages. It has many long vowels. It also uses vowel harmony. This means vowels in a word follow strict rules. They must match each other in sound.

Writing Yakut uses the Cyrillic script. This is a set of letters used in Russian. The alphabet has extra letters for special sounds. For example, it uses letters like ҕ, ҥ, and ө.

Yakut helps many different groups live together. Many people use it to talk to each other. Even people from other groups use it every day. It is a vital part of life in its home region.
