It is a very wet place. In fact, it is the wettest place in Japan. The rain falls a lot throughout the year. This rain helps the thick, green forests grow.

Many animals live here. You might see monkeys or deer in the woods. Sea turtles also come to the island to lay eggs. Some of these turtles are very rare. The island is also a World Heritage Site. This means it is a special place for the whole world.

The island has many tall mountains. The highest peak is 1,936 meters tall. There are also many hot springs. These are called onsen. People use them to bathe and relax.

You can reach the island by plane or by ferry. It is a beautiful and natural place to explore.
