Castle had many clever ways to surprise his audiences. For his movie *Macabre*, he gave customers life insurance certificates. He did this in case they died of fright during the show! In *House on Haunted Hill*, he used a trick called "Emergo." A skeleton with glowing red eyes floated over the audience on a wire. For the movie *The Tingler*, he used small motors under the seats.
