Castle used many tricks to make his films exciting. For the movie *Macabre*, he gave people life insurance certificates. He did this in case they died of fright! In *House on Haunted Hill*, a skeleton on a wire floated over the crowd. For *The Tingler*, he put small motors under theater seats. These motors made the seats buzz to scare the audience.

He also used other fun tools. In *13 Ghosts*, people used special glasses to see ghosts. In *Mr. Sardonicus*, the audience used glow-in-the-dark cards to vote on the story. Some people even had to leave through a special "Coward's Corner" if they were too scared. Castle's wild ideas made him very popular. He even had a fan club with 250,000 members. His work helped change how people made movies.
