Ed Wood was a man who loved making movies.

He grew up in New York. As a child, he loved comic books and movies. He even got his first movie camera for his 12th birthday. Later, he moved to Hollywood to work in film.

Ed made many films with very little money. He made science fiction and horror movies. Some of his films had mistakes. They used strange effects and odd stories. People called these films "campy." This means they were silly or over the top.

One of his most famous films is Plan 9 from Outer Space.

At first, many people did not know his work. In 1980, a book called The Golden Turkey Awards called it the worst film ever made. This actually helped more people find his movies.

Ed had many close friends in the film world. He was good friends with an actor named Bela Lugosi. Ed helped Lugosi through very hard times. Ed also wrote over 80 books. He used different names to write them. One name was Ann Gora. He chose this because he loved the soft feel of angora fabric.
