He lived a very busy life full of travel and big ideas. He was born in 1840 at Petworth House in Sussex. Later, he worked in the Diplomatic Service from 1858 to 1869. He was known for his many poems and political essays. Some people even called him a great adventurer. His writing helped him share his thoughts with the whole world.

Wilfrid and his wife, Lady Anne Blunt, loved horses very much. They traveled to Egypt and the Nejd to find pure Arabian horses. Together, they started a famous horse farm called the Crabbet Arabian Stud. They even bought a place near Cairo named Sheykh Obeyd. This farm helped protect the bloodlines of these special horses. Their daughter, Judith, later helped manage the Crabbet Park Estate. They worked hard to keep these beautiful animals safe.

Wilfrid also had very strong political beliefs. He was an anti-imperialist, which means he did not support powerful nations taking over other lands. In 1882, he spoke up for the people of Egypt. This caused him to be barred from Egypt for four years. He wrote three books to explain his views on these issues. One book was titled The Secret History of the English Occupation of Egypt. He used his words to fight for the rights of others.

His beliefs sometimes led to very difficult times. In 1888, he was sent to prison in Ireland. He was jailed for leading a meeting in County Galway. He stayed in Galway Prison and then Kilmainham Gaol in Dublin. Even while in prison, he tried to run for Parliament. He lost several elections in places like Kidderminster and Deptford. These moments showed how much he cared about his causes.

Many famous writers respected Wilfrid during his life. In 1914, a group of poets held a special dinner for him. Famous poets like W. B. Yeats and Ezra Pound attended the event. One poet even called him "the last of the great Victorians." He was a friend to many people, including Winston Churchill. He died in September 1922 after a long and storied life. His poems and his work with horses are still remembered today.
