Most Whites were officers from the old Russian army. They wanted to bring back the old ways of the empire. They often fought to keep Russia's old borders.

In 1918, a leader named Alexander Kolchak led the movement. The Whites had many different ideas. Some wanted a king, while others wanted a republic. However, they all shared a dislike for the Bolsheviks. The Bolsheviks were the group known as the Reds.

Many people in the White movement were unfair to others. They were often mean to Jewish people. They also mistreated people from different ethnic groups. This was part of what people call the White Terror.

After the war, the Whites lost. Many people left Russia to live in other lands. They lived in groups far from home for many years. They still hoped to change Russia even after the war ended.
