Long ago, people used the word "Aryan" to mean noble. It was a name used by people in ancient India and Iran. These groups spoke languages that were related to each other. A scholar named Sir William Jones studied these languages. He found that Sanskrit was like Greek and Latin. This helped people think about a group called Proto-Indo-Europeans. This was a group of people who spoke a shared parent language.

In the 1800s, some writers used this word in a wrong way. They turned a language idea into a fake idea about race. They claimed some people were a "master race." They thought these people were better than others. This idea was used to support unfair and hateful views. It was used by the Nazi party in Germany. This led to very terrible things and much harm to many people.

Today, we know these ideas were not true. Scientists found that humans are very similar. The idea of a "pure" race does not match the facts.
