Sam Walton wanted to sell many items at a lower profit margin. This means he made less money on each item. However, he hoped to sell a much higher volume of goods. To do this, he found suppliers that cost less than others. This allowed him to undercut his competitors on pricing. The company also uses a smart way to move goods. They build distribution centers in a hub and spoke framework. This means they place centers within driving distance of their stores. They even used a large satellite network to track sales.
