This sea is a closed basin. This means the river does not reach any ocean.

Many large cities sit near the Volga. Five of the ten biggest cities in Russia are in its drainage basin. These include the capital, Moscow.

The river is very important for power. Large dams make electricity for people. Some of these dams create huge reservoirs. The biggest one in Europe is the Kuybyshev Reservoir.

In the winter, the river freezes for three months. In the delta, you can find rare birds. You might see flamingos or pelicans there.
