The Ural is a very long river.

It flows through Russia and Kazakhstan. Many people say it is the line between Europe and Asia. In one city, a bridge even has signs for both continents.

The river starts in the Ural Mountains. It flows south toward the Caspian Sea. In the mountains, the river is narrow and rocky. As it moves, it gets much wider. Near the end, it forms a delta. A delta is a place where a river splits into many paths. This delta looks like a bird's foot. It creates large, wet lands called wetlands.

Many animals live here. Migrating birds stop in the wetlands to rest and eat. You might see a flamingo or a large white pelican. Many fish also live in the river. Some fish, like the sturgeon, swim up the river to lay eggs. Long ago, people used pike poles to catch fish in the winter.
