These actions led to international sanctions and a financial crisis in Russia.

Today, many people look at his rule in different ways. Some say he has made Russia strong, but others point to serious problems.

His government has been called an authoritarian dictatorship. This means there is much control and less freedom. Critics say there is a lack of fair elections and free media. The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for him in 2023. He was reelected to another term in March 2024.
