Sometimes the music changes. It might speed up when enemies come near. It can also reward you for a win.

Early music used small computer chips. These chips made a style called chiptune. These sounds were often simple. For example, the Atari 2600 could only make two tones at once. Later, chips like the Yamaha FM synthesis chips made better sounds. These made music feel warm and pleasant.

Some games used samples. A sample is a short clip of a real sound. The Amiga computer was good at this. It could play back notes from a real instrument. This sounded more real than just using tones.

Today, game music is very popular. People buy soundtracks on tapes or discs. Some people even go to big concerts to hear it. Famous composers like Koji Kondo make music for games like Super Mario Bros.

Many people love these songs.
