These pieces are played in a special order. In the past, suites were made of dance tunes.

One famous type is the Baroque suite. It often used four dances. First came the allemande, which is a moderate dance. Next was the courante, a dance that means "to run." Then came the sarabande, a slow and stately dance. Finally, there was the gigue, a fast dance.

Some suites also have a prelude at the start. A prelude is a short piece that leads into the rest. Composers could also add extra dances called galanteries. These might include a minuet or a gavotte.

Today, suites can come from many places. They can be parts of a ballet or an opera. You can even find suites from films or video games. This is a great way to hear many songs tied together. It helps more people enjoy the music.
