In 1925, Lustig went to Paris, France. He read that the Eiffel Tower was hard to fix. He came up with a big trick. He told men that the city wanted to sell the tower for scrap metal. He pretended to be a government official. He tricked a man named André Poisson into paying him. Lustig took the money and ran away to Austria.

Lustig also had a trick called the "Rumanian Box." It was a large wooden box. He told people the box could make copies of money. He would show them a real bill coming out of the box. In truth, he had hidden a real bill inside. He sold these fake machines for a lot of money.
